Bread Prices In Kenya To Go Up following Ukraine-Russia War
By Owino Nyakiti
Ukraine - Russia geopolitical conflict has affected many businesses both globally and locally. One notable business is that of Oil. The commodity prices have risen globally past USD 100 per barrel according to global market analysts.
Locally, Kenya is not left behind. It is worth noting that Kenya imports close to 90% of its wheat from Ukraine and Russia. This means that as the war intensifies, the wheat volumes may go down and prices go up. The global supply chain will therefore, be affected and millers may not get enough. Kenyans would consequently have to dig dipper into their pockets to purchase wheat products including bread.
On the other hand, however, the crisis could trigger domestic purchases as the government will be forced to re-strategise and source for wheat locally.
Well articulated.
